Christine is a dedicated child protection social worker who has been working in the field for 15 years. She has seen firsthand the challenges and rewards of working with vulnerable children and families, and has developed a passion for making a difference in their lives.
After many years working in a permanent role for a local authority, Christine made the decision to try working for an agency. While she enjoyed the flexibility and variety of the work, she found that something was missing.
"I missed the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a team and working for a specific community, I also found that the paperwork and administration required by agencies took up a lot of time that could have been spent on direct work with families."
Recently, Christine returned to a permanent role with Lambeth Council, and she couldn't be happier.
"I'm so glad to be back working for a local authority, it feels like I'm part of a family again, and I know that I'm making a real difference in the lives of the families I work with."
For Christine, the importance of the role of social workers cannot be overstated.
"We are the ones who are there for families when they need us the most, we help them to navigate difficult situations and provide support and guidance to ensure that children are safe and well-cared for."
Working for a local authority has many benefits, according to Christine.
"There's a real sense of community in Lambeth, and I feel like I'm part of that, I know the area and the families I work with well, which means I can provide more effective support."
Christine also appreciates the resources and support available to her as a social worker for Lambeth Council.
"There's a real commitment to ongoing training and development, which means I can continually improve my skills and knowledge, I also have access to a wide range of services and professionals who can help me to provide the best possible support to families."
For Christine, working in Lambeth is more than just a job - it's a calling.
"I feel like I'm part of something bigger than myself," she says. "I'm proud to be a social worker, and I'm proud to work for Lambeth Council."
